Outsiders Songwriters Spotlight Series-
Fans consider Stephen’s music witty, fun, thought provoking, honest, and entertaining. His stories prove to be direct, on point, and timeless. Within his most recent album, “The Hustler’s Fool”, Stephen weaves emotions and topics ranging from Love to Loss, Gambling (The Hustler’s Fool), Drought (HigherWater), the thirst for a good drink (Riding on This Wagon), and nostalgic memories of a long left behind childhood home (Foley Drive).
During a performance or recording you hear hints of his strongest musical influences (TomWaits, GuyClark, RodneyCrowell, JamesMcMurtry, and Johnny Cash) while he firmly stands on his own keen music and entertainment skills.
Stephen’s lyrics will make you chuckle and grin while others will have you considering darker sides of life. Stephen says, “I tend to have a cup half full but, chipped on the rim outlook”. True Texas Americana, Great Melodies, Outstanding Music, and True Memories are made during a Stephen K. Morris show.
You can find Stephen hosting and performing at his weekly residency Wednesday nights 6:30 – 9:00pm at Western Edge In Fredericksburg, Texas. Stephen began hosting his songwriter guests weekly April 3, 2016. He quickly found a natural and comfortable role as host an interviewer. Nearly 4 years later, he has now interviewed over 140 unique songwriters from all over the world Including Most of the States, Canada, and Norway. During his interviews we learn more about the writer’s approach towriting, musical influences, favorite performers, and daily lives. The performers also share songs from their past or new albums. Listeners of the series leave the show feeling like they know the writer behind the songs.
Stephen says, “Musicians often wear many hats. The Outsider Songwriter Series allows me to wear my “music fan” and “music student” hats again. Being a student and fan of music goes hand-in-hand with continuing to write and perform. The opportunity to host and interview other talented writers allows me a “classroom” where I can ask the questions, get to know other writers, and sit back and listen to great songs.”
